The HB3202 ruling shows why Bob Marshall will win

February 29, 2008

I know you’ve heard all the pundits, bloggers, and other pseudo-experts who insist that Bob Marshall cannot win against Jim Gilmore, or that Marshall cannot win against Mark Warner in a general election.

Well, most (but admittedly, not all), also insisted that Bob Marshall could not beat Tim Kaine, Bob McDonnell, Bill Howell, et al in the courts on HB3202.

Guess what?  He won.

From this point forward, just about everyone in eastern Virginia (especially Hampton Roads) will know who he is – namely, he’s the guy that led the fight to wipe out unconstitutional taxes imposed on them against their will.  Northern Virginians, who already know him pretty well, will remember that he was the one who helped wipe this nonsense away.

The HB3202 episode has been a microcosm of the numerous advantages Marshall has over Gilmore and Warner:

  • The experience of knowing how a legislator must do battle in order to advance our values and interests against the lefty elite
  • The willingness and courage to take on the leadership of both political parties in order to do the right thing
  • The determination and doggedness to keep up the fight in public in order to ensure the powers that be cannot thwart the will of the people in the darkness

Keep in mind everyone in Richmond was arrayed against Bob Marshall on this one.  Bill Howell supported HB3202; the entire Senate leadership supported HB3202; Bob McDonnell’s fingerprints were all over HB3202; even Bill Bolling and Tim Kaine (neither of whom were happy with it at the outset) eventually came around.  Jim Gilmore himself greeted the entire issue with an arctic silence.

Marshall’s refusal to give in was considered whimsical and self-defeating.

No longer.

Now, to millions of Virginians furious at having these taxes shoved down there throats despite rejecting them in 2002, Bob Marshall is a hero.  He is the man who stood up for them, never gave up the fight, and in the end, killed Tax Hike 9 from Outer Space.

He is exactly the kind of politician we need in the United States Senate – and now, millions of Virginians understand why.

Marshall wins a big one against the NVTA

February 29, 2008

The State Supreme Court just declared the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority taxes unconstitutional.  Thus an egregious and illegal series of tax hikes was just wiped away.

Who do the people of Northern Virginia (and Hampton Roads, whose taxes were on hold pending this ruling) have to thank?

Delegate Bob Marshall.

I’ll have more on this later today.

Shaun Kenney Sums Up Marshall Candidacy

February 27, 2008

cross-posted from Black Velvet Bruce Li

If ever there was a defining statement about a candidate, Shaun Kenney just gave it in a Washington Times article in today’s edition:

“People may come after him and say he is not a team payer, but Bob Marshall never has to apologize for a bad vote to his conservative base,” Mr. Kenney said.

The operative word here is “never”. Never has Bob Marshall voted in a way he has ever had to apologize for. Never has he cooperated in a compromise that he later felt ashamed for supporting. Never has he had to switch his position on an issue, a vote, or a policy position. In a day where some politicians are as likely to discard campaign promises as frequently as they are their used kleenex tissues, Bob Marshall stands apart as an unapologetic warrior for conservative causes, and someone who has proven to have no hesitation whatsoever about taking to task those who violate conservative principles. Bob Marshall: Champion for the Environment

February 6, 2008

I have been approached by a few acquaintances asking why I am supporting Bob Marshall for Senate.  The reasoning behind my support is simple:  We need someone who will advocate for change in the U.S. Senate, someone who will not stray from their core values.  After receiving Bob’s literature at a Fairfax County Republican Committee meeting, I had a chance to research his proposals for the continued prosperity for the Commonwealth and was impressed by his legislative record.

I am what most would consider a “crunchy” conservative (What is a Crunchy Conservative?  You should read “Crunchy Cons” by Rod Dreher), and I believe that we need to protect our environment for future generations.  Now, I do not subscribe to Al Gore’s conspiracy theories on global warming, because they are nothing but hype.  However, it is my belief that the little actions we take will improve the environment.

Bob Marshall has a solid record of protecting and preserving the environment.  He fights to protect the Chesapeake Bay by enforcing tough standards to clean it up and reduce pollution.  Additionally, Bob has received the endorsements from the Virginia chapter of The Sierra Club and The League of Conservation Voters.  This alone has earned him a title and reputation of being a friend to the environment, and this is one of many reasons why I am supporting Bob Marshall for U.S. Senate.

Why I am supporting Bob Marshall?

February 6, 2008

I would like to thank the team at Bloggers 4 Bob Marshall for inviting me to join.   I want to share with you why I am supporting Bob Marshall for U.S. Senate.  Over the past two months, I had the opportunity to meet with both U.S. Senate candidates.  I was impressed by both Gilmore and Marshall.  However, I became a Marshall supporter after listening to him speak at the Fairfax County Republican Committee meeting.  Marshall has a solid conservative record, and he is not willing to compromise his beliefs to follow the party line.  Marshall is devoted to his community and family, and this moral character is what was most appealing.

Once I read through his record, I was impressed by the endorsements he gained during his re-election campaign as Delegate.  He was endorsed by local pro-life groups, The League of Conservation Voters and the Virginia chapter of the Sierra Club.  Improving our environment is an important issue, and it is one that needs to be addressed at a national level.  Bob Marshall also stands for pro-life issues, and this is one area where Jim Gilmore has held a wavering stance.

Bob Marshall has the dedication and perseverance to defeat Mark Warner in the General Election.  It is time for a candidate who can win Northern Virginia and unify our party by allowing us to return to our conservative views.   This is why I am supporting Bob Marshall for U.S. Senate.
